The University of Pretoria is offering an internship opportunity within the Department of Companion Animal Clinical Studies (Small Animal Clinic) for the role of Junior Veterinarian. This non-degree programme aims to equip the candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills relating to small animals. The candidate will be allowed to work alongside a team of experts within the veterinary field.
Candidates interested in specialisations will be granted exposure to the specialist environment under which the MmedVet degree is obtained. The programme will take place at the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital.
Salary: R300 108 per annum

Key performance areas of the programme:
- Providing a clinical service with admin responsibilities within various sections of the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (this will be done under the mentorship of Faculty Specialists)
- Participating in work on weekdays and weekends, as well as community clinical activities (this will be completed on a rotational basis for exposure to trauma and emergency medicine at the hospital, community, and satellite facilities)
- Taking part in the clinical training allocated to undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students (this includes the supervision of clinical procedures)
- Participating in clinical rounds and other research activities (this will form part of an introduction to the research requirements of the MmedVet programme)
- Participating in an intern and mentorship programme (this aims to provide support to non-clinical development as a prospective specialist)

- Must have completed a BVSc Degree, BVMCh or an equivalent professional veterinary qualification
- Must be registered as a veterinarian with the SAVC
- Must have acknowledged clinical expertise
- Must have adequate subject knowledge relating to this position
- Must have excellent language skills
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must have proficiency in MS Office
- Must be able to work after-hours
- Advantageous: can commit to further academic development
